Reading Meteor Blades' and teacherken's diaries and listening to the President's speech, I was beginning, momentarily, to feel a sense that people were sick of hate speech, and that maybe something positive could happen in our nation.
Then I went over to Redstate to see how they are reacting this morning.
If you don't want to get totally depressed and hopeless that anything could ever change, I suggest moving on to another diary right now.
Here's some quotes from the first recommended diary I opened, entitled "The President I will have":
Starting in January 2013, we can drive the Visigoths back over the Alps, pursue them all the way back to Dacia, then burn down and raze their homeland into an ash-surfaced parking lot.
It continues on in that vein.
The top front page diary at the moment says,
We’ve endured the spectacle of the leftist punditocracy shrilly blaming opinions opposed to the Obama Administration for the actions of an obviously schizophrenic young man who has been described by his friends as a left wing doper who was disengaged from current politics. We’ve seen the addled superannuated "sheriff" lash out, blaming everyone in sight except his own department which had numerous contacts with the shooter in the past few years did bupkis, in fact they did less than bupkis. Having failed to hang direct responsibility about our neck — an action very accurately described by Sarah Palin as "blood libel" — they moved on to Phase II which is "everyone needs to watch what they say... especially you wingnuts who are violent and since the left doesn’t say violent stuff so we’re okay."
Then there's another recommended diary entitled, and I am not making this up, "Are Liberal Journalists And Bloggers Trying to Have Sarah Palin Assassinated? In A Word, Yes."
Sarah Palin has become a hate-figure to vast swathes - and all evidence points to - a significant majority, of the Left. Her very existence inarguably sends liberals, from the tonier and sophisticated precincts where New York Times journalists congregate to the scatological feverswamps of the DailyKos, into paroxysms of near-homicidal rage.
Frankly, it is beyond question that the vast overwhelming majority of liberals wish the woman had never been born, and, to be even more candid, it is also inarguable that should there be an incident, whether accidental or deliberate, where the lady were to lose her life, there would be celebrating and glasses raised in toasts to whatever (or whoever) brought it about from the comments sections of the Huffington Post to the newsrooms of MSNBC.
There is a "satirical" diary entitled "Tucson Sheriff Dupnik to Request Palin, Limbaugh Extradition." There's a diary about ACORN (yawn). There's a post blaming the left for this event,
What the "respectable Left" fears very much is the culture of hate and outrage that caused that kid to turn his violence toward political figures. For that culture of hate today is their progeny. For the most part they were raised in it themselves, and this generation they’ve sired and nurtured. And they have profited from it. The problem is, they can’t always control it.
and another one reading
It must be really frustrating being a liberal journalist and/or blogger today. Increasingly, they’re seeing their chance to politically profit from the shooting of Gabrielle Giffords fade away.
Unlike dKos, there is not a single recommended post over there that promotes peace or introspection or love. Nothing discussing the victims or the opportunity to improve the situation.
It's pretty clear that these folks have no interest in joining in the healing that could have begun to occur with the memorial service last night.
I wonder what it would take to make that happen.
