Today I had a conversation with a very nice young man who needs a job. He's an Iraq vet who served multiple deployments and he needs a job, and I don't have one.
When I met him he was listening to his phone on speakerphone while he listened to the recorded message telling him he was on hold. He smiled at me and said hi. A while later, his head was down and he wasn't looking up anymore.
I waited and then asked him if he was okay. He said he was. So I asked him about his call. He has been unemployed except for some construction work for two years. We talked about the tough job market in Oregon. He was a med tech in the Marines and would like to find work in an ER setting as a tech. Even though he is skilled he would be happy for any opportunity to work full time. His name is Scott.
This is a short diary, but if any of y'all are in Oregon with a prospect for a vet with a good disposition and hope for the future, please post and I will tell him. You can reach me by email at estarkie at mac dot com.
Cheers all and best wishes for the new year for each and every one of us.
