Welcome to Press the Face, a Sunday-morning talk show liveblog where you can respond to the Sunday talks with your opinions, support, refutations, or ravings. The larger goal is to provide meaningful accounts of the the shows for those who are unable to watch them, but it's also an opportunity to share our thoughts in real time as armchair spectators of the sport of political discussion.
This week we were stunned as Keith Olbermann abruptly announced his departure from Countdown. But is it really stunning? The signs have been building for quite some time. His highly publicised conflicts with MSNBC, the merger with Comcast, the increasing national appetite for outrageous right-wing propaganda--all have colluded to create a climate ripe for articulate, well-informed progressive voices to be silenced. But I believe there is much more to this than we are being told, and that Keith will not go gentle into that good night. When he is ready--and legally able--to talk, we will get an earful. Meanwhile, we carry on. But we are keeping the light on.
