Its really the loss of my husband's employment. We're are in the same boat as many others. Now I have my very own insurance horror story (not scary really, just expensive).
I'm glad to have the internet to raise cash by selling things off. I have an offer I hope someone won't be able to refuse. Your very own Al Franken-Norm Coleman bobblehead: The Count Recount.
I promise to get to the point....I want to sell my bobblehead to someone on Kos who would appreciate it.
I watched the campaign to move your money to small banks with interest and was happy every time Credit Unions got a mention too. My husband has supported our family of four for 18 years running our neighborhood credit union. that ended this fall due to the need to merge with a larger institution to avoid outright closure.
I'm proud of him because he spent the summer months seeking out the best merger deal for his employees and to uphold the community mission. He could have saved his job by doing nothing (but only for 6 mos or so more).
I'm also proud of the work he did through the years, being on the Board of our free city zoo, tutoring weekly for years, running book drives for elementary schools, scholarships, grants to school groups etc.
I was also proud of our decision that I would be home with our kids. I taught part time (so not home totally). Without passing judgement at all, our choice was to keep it simple. Someone expressed surprise one time that I didn't consider our house a "starter house". We live in a 1 1/2 story in a great neighborhood in the fabulous St Paul.He was our breadwinner. Our lives were not too stressful.
Long story short...he has x amt of months of severance left. By the way I count my blessings for his severance, our health, the equity in our home etc. He is not hopeful on the job front. Too bad because he was/is a fantastic manager of a financial institution.
I am raising some cash by selling things. In 2008 the St Paul Saints had a bobblehead give away to commemorate the Senate recount. You all remember it! There were 250 bobbleheads given out. It is the count/recount. Not only does it bobble but Al Franken's head twists around to show Norm Coleman's head.I begged my husband to find out if he knew anyone to get one for me. He did. I love it and will keep it but I think someone on Kos would like it even more than me.
I put it up for sale on ebay But I want to offer it here.I would feel better about someone here appreciating it than selling it to a random ebayer.
Anyone interested?
Oh p.s. my insurance story....of course cobra is too expensive. My husband purchased some insurance as cheap as he could. Now we pay mega bucks for medicine that had good coverage before. It is almost criminal to be anti-reform.I will keep counting my blessings. It could be worse...
