Boys & girls, your humble diary author had quite the busy day - a few doctors appointments, getting kitty food, and getting my new Blackberry which is THE COOLEST! :D I was eligible for an upgrade, so I did just that. I can watch videos on teh YouTubes, get on Facebook easily, and get on teh Twitter WAY easily! So, if you're not following me there, click @FOOLeader; if some of you are there, and I'm not following you, let me know who you are! :D
It's time for "this day in history." Patty Hearst was kidnapped on this date in 1974. There's actually a take - off on the kidnapping as part of the sub - plot (of sorts) in Network! Have you all seen it yet??!! ;D The Misfits was released on this date in 1961; it ended up being both Clark Gable's & Marilyn Monroe's final film.
Both Charles Lindbergh & Rosa Parks were born on this date in 1902 & 1913 respectively; Karen Carpenter & Liberace died on this date in 1983 & 1987 respectively.
It's time now for Friday evening SPARK! :D She's back! The "Show Me Your Papers" state has a proposed budget. Just guess what gets cut? AND, just guess what area gets an increase?! *&^%$#@! The Animal Conspiracy Theory rears its ugly rear again; don't tell Lonesome Rhodes! ;D Finally, with Valentine's Day fast approaching, check that candy VERY CLOSELY, boys & girls!
On with The Rachel Maddow Show!
"Strategy and Tactics" - Look at that nice calm peaceful live shot!! WOW!
There were big 'ol demonstrations in Egypt today, and they were peaceful & all got along. The lunch counter sit - ins began 51 years ago today. Wow again! And, as Rachel said, it's damn difficult to not respond to violence being done on you with violence of your own.
How 'bout that video from Iran? Today was declared a "Day of Departure." Mr. Mubarak did not depart, so the protests will go on. Richard Engel is LIVE from Cairo {insert standing 'o' here}! :D
Wednesday's battle in Tahir Square has become an iconic moment; those present today used their presence to say, "We're still here!" A high - ranking defense official joined the crowd today. People early in the day were ready for an assault that happily didn't come. :D And, those in Tahir Square are staying in Tahir Square out of fear that if they leave they won't be able to return. Journalists were still being harassed today. Wow, Richard Engel said the pro - Mubarak thugs "...hate us." Damn strong language - and, sadly, obviously true. Those forces are telling state media that foreign journalists are egging on the protestors. Demonstrators welcome journalists!
"Spies Like Us" - OK, Rachel "asked" for it; here it is! :D
We were caught off guard before the Berlin Wall came down, too. It seems like the CIA's kind of been missing the mark! They didn't know about Iraq's invasion of Kuwait either?! DUDE! President Obama may or may not be disappointed in our intelligence efforts in the area; it depends on who you believe. Instead of getting useful information, the CIA likes to play secret soldier boy.
"Idiocracy" - Yippee! More ragging on FAUX News! ;D Oh yippee...a revisit of "death panels"... *&^%$#@! Because of FAUX News, a whole lot of time has to be spent debunking the $hit FAUX News spews out instead of clarifying what's true - like in...oh...say...HEALTH CARE REFORM! Uh - oh, I don't know how much I can watch this; I value my brain pan! Can someone forcibly commit Lonesome Rhodes - seriously?!
Lambchop gets to follow up Lonesome Rhodes?! Oh Rachel, give him a bonus for having Lonesome Rhodes clean - up duty.
Chris Hayes pointed out how damn difficult it is to debunk $hit from the intertubes & air after FAUX News is done, and he's going to find himself on a FAUX News loop! ;D
"The Murder of David Kato" - Mr. Kato was beaten to death with a hammer in his home; he was a gay man living in Uganda. The minister at his funeral ended up ragging on homosexuals - CLASSY!
Another minister who was excommunicated because he decided to be compassionate toward gay people took over.
God created you; God is on your side.
Oh boy, that minister better watch himself from now on. Cops took great pains to say his murder had NOTHING to do with him being gay. Mr. Kato talked about the influence of the religious right in the Ugandan attitudes toward homosexuals. Yea...those oh so righteous C Street peeps, huh? The Ugandan "Kill the Gays" bill is still pending. There are elections there in 2 weeks.
"Super" - The Steelers' emblem is only on 1 side of their helmet. And, then there's the CheeseHeads. Their helmets are full of cheddar. ;D They have to have a "G" on both sides to remember the first letter of the name of the place where they're from. ;D ;D ;D GO STEELERS! Or, to be more honest, just don't let the damn Packers win; that would be truly insufferable for us Bears fans! Rachel's a Patriots fan; well, no one's perfect. ;D
