These are workflow instructions for posting diaries to the Gulf Watchers group. However, they would be easily adapted for another group so please feel free to copy anything you find useful.

Scheduling a diary in the group queue has now failed to publish three times.
Warning for Mac/Safari users. Once you create a diary on DK4 you are caught in a trap and will not be able to create a new diary unless you clear Safari's cache. This is occurring with OS X 10.6.6/Safari 5.0.3 (6533.19.4). Elfling posted she was not seeing this behavior with a previous version of Safari.
This video shows the problem and fix for a queued diary but the fix is the same for deleted, scheduled and published diaries.

On the Daily Kos homepage scroll down a little to the Welcome Back [yourUID] box on the right side of the page.
Click on the New link under the DIARIES heading.
Do the diary title, intro, body (now called extended) and tags just like DK3.
There is no longer a “Save Draft” button in edit mode but clicking on the Preview button autosaves your diary as draft just like in DK3.
After you you click on the Preview button the Publications Manager button will no longer be grayed out.
Click on it to get the popup Publish this Diary window that has publication choices.
In the Publish this Diary Window click on the QUEUE TO A GROUP BLOG radio button.
In the drop-down box select Gulf Watchers (when DK4 goes live it will be Gulf Watchers Group.)
Click on the Publish Button.
You will get confirmation that your diary has been queued. If you are a Gulf Watchers Member you are done and one of the group’s BlogEditors or BlogAdmins will schedule your diary for publication.
If you are a Gulf Watchers BlogEditor or BlogAdmin click on the Gulf Watchers group link in the Welcome Back box.
You will now be in the default view for the Gulf Watchers Group.
Click on the Diary Queue link.
If you want to publish your diary right away click on the Publish Now link to bring up the Publish this Story popup window. |
In the Publish this Story popup window click on the Publish Now button to publish immediately. |
If you would prefer to schedule your diary for later publication click on the Schedule Later link. |
Click in the date field in the popup calendar to choose a date to publish. The current date has black type while the other days of the month have orange type. The Cancel button is to the left of the Schedule button. Its label is clickable but hidden behind the calendar in case you want to change your mind.
Alternatively, you can just enter the date using the format mm/dd/yyyy. If you want to edit the date once it is entered tabbing will move you from month to day to year.
Enter the time field using the hh:mm:AM/PM format. Once you type in the first number the entire time field will autofill using the current minutes and AM or PM Use tab to move from hours to minutes to AM/PM and shift tab to move backwards.
Checking the Remove Schedule Time box removes the date and time you have entered but the check mark stays when you reenter the data. The diary will schedule to the time you reentered when you click the Schedule button even with the Remove Schedule Time box remains checked.
Daily Kos servers run on Eastern Standard or Daylight Time so that is the time that is used to publish scheduled diaries. All times now show as the time zone you have selected in My Page > Profile > Edit Profile. Set your time zone there and then click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
