The quilt the community sent to nudger
Last week, the community came together and sent a quilt to nudger, who has recently been diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer.
It came about the time she got the news.
Her friend emailed me:
I also want to let you know that the quilt came at a perfect time. When I gave it to her yesterday morning, nudger was alert and responsive, even though the breathing tube made it impossible for her to speak. She smiled at the beautiful colors and stroked the comforting fabric. Please share this with the rest of your group who provided such a thoughtful and fitting gift for our nudger.
Nudger had just had some disheartening news:
The doctor who met w/ her (along with sister Lisa and Aurora) gave her a clear and compassionate message about being unable to do anything about the cancer (it's aggressive and growing); and that her lungs will continue to have issues of increased fluid.
He said it would be her decision about when she wanted to go off the ventilator. When she does, they would move her to a quiet room (off the CCU) and make sure she was not in any pain.
I am so sorry to bring you this news -- but please know that what you did in sending comfort was important and an extremely compassionate thing to do.
Thank you all.
