Back in the DK4 Beta, there was a problem with using Publish Now, if you were trying to publish to a group. Basically, if you were publishing or republishing diaries by anyone other than yourself—a new contribution by another group member, a diary published elsewhere on Daily Kos by someone else—if you tried to use Publish Now you'd get an error.
There is a work-around. You need to use Schedule Later, but it's almost as quick as Publish Now.
First, in your group's queue, click on "Schedule Later" next to the diary you want to publish to the group that wouldn't "Publish Now". A “Schedule this Diary:” popup box will appear. Please do the following:
• Click in the textbox next to “Date:”. A calendar will appear; today’s date will be in black.
• Click on today’s date. It will fill the Date textbox.
• Next, click in the Time textbox. Hit the up arrow on your keyboard, and the current time will magically appear with the hours highlighted. Hit the right arrow to move the highlight over to the minutes and hit the up arrow to move the minutes up by one so it's at the first full minute in the future.
• Click the “Schedule” button in the lower right corner of the box.
That's it. Your group queue will now show the diary with the scheduled time.
If the diary disappears from the queue instead, that means that the time has already been passed, perhaps even before you hit the Schedule button. In that case, the diary may wait for the next full minute before actually publishing, so don't panic if the diary doesn't appear in your group blog immediately. I've actually had diaries take five minutes to appear, but that's unusual.
The scheduler only seems to publish on the minute, regardless of when you queue something. So queuing in the past will not get your diary published any sooner; indeed, doing so sometimes seems to confuse the scheduler, and your diary may not appear for a few minutes. (See above.)
Good luck! We had great success with this work-around during the Daily Kos beta; with any luck, you won't need to use this for long. Keep trying "Publish Now" first if that's what you want to do; if it doesn't work, then proceed to Schedule Later. Schedule Later is handy in itself, for when you finish a diary early and want it to publish at a particular time.
KosBusters! is a group of DK4 beta testers who decided to continue bug hunting and feature testing now that DK4 is the official platform of Daily Kos.
In addition to locating bugs and testing newly released features, we plan to post informational diaries—such as this one—to aid everyone in using and navigating the site. If you have any questions, we are happy to answer them as best we know how. We are not currently accepting new members.
