In August, I attended a Bernie Sanders town meeting in Putney, VT. There were a lot of speakers, and I came armed with my camera, which can also do video capture. There's one segment in particular which I think is crucial:
Meet Paul Milman, the head of Chroma Technologies, a high end tech company in Bellows Falls, VT. Chroma is employee-owned, but it's still a for-profit company.
What does he have to say about taxes? I'll give you the short version:
Paying higher taxes is a lot more important than paying more for health care. Milman outlines exactly how little a company with $20 million in sales paid for taxes and how much stress the rising health care costs puts on the company.
Vermont, like other states, is in a bit of trouble right now. Many of our Republicans claim the state is hostile to business because of high taxes, but they provide no evidence for this. This simple video proves the lie in this claim in the most direct fashion: a specific example, backed by specific facts, from someone who heads a large business that stays in Vermont, despite right wing spin to the contrary.
People can claim that we can't afford to pass universal health care in Vermont. I think we can't afford not to and this short presentation explains why.
