The one time the GOP speaks the truth, and they shoot themselves in the elephant's foot. yowsa! (from TPM)
Speaking on Morning Joe Thursday morning, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) compared the current situation in Wisconsin, where Gov. Scott Walker (R) has inspired days of protests by proposing a budget that would remove key bargaining powers for public employee unions, to the recent unrest in Egypt that toppled the 30-year authoritarian rule of Hosni Mubarak, saying it's "like Cairo has moved to Madison these days."
Yes, he really said it.
And since it was on Morning Joe, not a blink was blinked. They just went on to why what happened in Cairo was...............bad?
Let's say we help this little meme along, shall we?
If Madison = Cairo, then it only follows that Gov. Walker = Mubarek. We've already got use of the Wisconsin National Guard being invoked, which has its own parallel with the Egyptian military. And assuming that the National Guard would follow Cairo's lead and wouldn't want to repeat the incidents of Kent State, 1970, we can see a direct parallel there.
Hey, I guess Paul Ryan stepped in it....................by....................telling the truth?
The wisdom of the GOP. Turned on its ugly head.
Let's hope this goes the way of Egypt, and Walker leaves in shame.
Also.
AND, President Obama has officially thrown his support behind the protests!
UPDATE: More evidence that Ryan is right (from the front page):
Yesterday the police were present and amiable, but mostly seemed concerned with doing their duty of maintaining public safety. Today they joined with the firemen–who you may recall are also spared the draconian measures in store for nearly all other public employees under Scott Walker’s budget repair bill–and actively protested against the measure.
But what I found even more impressive is that the officers in uniform–the ones on active duty–were also chanting and waving their fists right along with the rest of us!
