Well I certainly didn't expect that one. I decided to go ahead and try Google Chrome again today, after giving it a rest for a few months. Firefox was getting testy and deleting a lot of my stuff randomly, which pissed me off greatly.
I originally stopped using Chrome because it bogged down for some reason, which also pissed me off. I figure I'll take slow over random stuff deleting any day of the week.
The only thing is...Chrome is anything but slow here on DK4. Jump the ugly squiggle for a quick comparison.
Versions:
Thanks to fredlonsdale in the comments for reminding me to add my versions:
Windows 7
Google Chrome 9.0.597.98 (latest update)
Mozilla Firefox 3.6.13 (latest update)
Speed:
It takes about 2 seconds to load the home page on Chrome. It takes 4 with Firefox.
It takes about 1 second to load my user page on Chrome. It takes 3 with Firefox.
It takes about 3 seconds to load a photo diary with lots of comments on Chrome. It takes about 6 to fully load the same with Firefox.
Clicking on a comment loads it immediately -- no lag, no loading, on Chrome. It takes about 2 seconds to load each comment on Firefox.
Rating a comment takes the same amount of time on Chrome and Firefox.
Diary preview shows up in 1-2 seconds in Chrome, whereas it can take in excess of 10 seconds in Firefox.
Diary update works about 3 seconds faster than in Firefox as well. So do Diary Edit, Save Changes, and Publish.
Features & Usability:
-The text cursor doesn't blink on Chrome, whereas it blinks on Firefox. That's rather annoying. It's sort of a typing surprise -- no idea where the text will show up. Surprise! I'm in the middle of a sentence, sucker. This is more of a function of Chrome than DK4 itself.
-The gray buttons below the box in which I'm typing right now (Bold, Italic, Blockquote) are more compact than in Firefox, again, as a function of the browser instead of the website.
-The collapsible boxes (Diary Recommended By, recommended by Weatherdude, etc.) collapse and expand way faster than in Firefox.
-Using the bold/italic/blockquote buttons aren't jumpy as they are in Firefox. Bolding a word or phrase using Firefox "reloaded" the textbox and shot you to the top. Every time I bolded something, I would have to scroll back down to the current text to continue.
Bug:
This isn't a browser bug, but it's a site bug that happens across all browsers I've used (IE, Firefox, Chrome). When I go to someone's page and look through their followers, it loads mine up instead. I see the first page of their followers, but when I scroll down and click "next," it brings my followers up in the box. Clicking "previous" will go to the first page of my followers. It's strange. As soon as I publish, I'm going to report it with the form.
What say you? Any browser preference for DK4? Bugs? Features? Anything? Bueller? Bueller?Updated by weatherdude at Thu Feb 17, 2011, 10:52:39 PM
