A Better Life.
Better Government.
More and Better Democrats.
More and Better Democratic Politicians.
More and Better Democratic Office Holders.
These goals are why we are here and they seem to imply
More and Better KOSsacks.
Where do they come from? They either follow a link from somewhere else or they hear about us on the news or a friend clues them in. They arrive knowing nothing about our mores and many make mistakes. Please be nice and don't let it get personal. Sometimes it's a troll but more often than not it's someone having a bad day or has made an error in cognition. Sometimes a little bit of education goes a long way.
Remember the goal: More and Better KOSsacks.
Most who would join us have already heard of us. We're not a viral meme anymore. Be nice to strangers and be nice to those having a bad day. Help guide the lost back onto the Orange Path. Please?
This diary is about techniques rather than personalities.
The technical means related to catching (or concealing) sock puppets are off limits. Don't give the bad actors any help.
That being said some are up to no good. People experience conversion of one kind or another, an account gets hijacked, astroturf, ratfuck, psychotic, or Redstate. There it is. Right there in the thread. A troll. Maybe it wrote a diary. How to tell at DK4?
The tools at DK4 are different and in my opinion not finished yet. Some are probably broken.
Mojo at DK4 runs from Zero to Five. There is no visible two and a half though the server may think so. The target I recall is that approximately two percent of KOSsacks will have five bars of mojo. Experimentation with the formula will continue and fluctuations in your mojo are more likely related to a changing formula than your fortune.
This is from my profile page. I have four bars of mojo which is meaningless. I have a Silver Beta device as a result of my efforts to make DK4 work. It is meaningless. I also have that Blue TU device. That means I am a Trusted User. I can see hiddens, I can change tags, and I have five HRs a day. In theory TU status comes with the third bar but things aren't working quite right yet.
This is an example of a user with four bars of mojo but is not a TU. There are others and I have no idea why. DHinIA is also a subscriber.
I was also able to find an example of a user with TU status but only two bars of Mojo. Again, I have no idea why.
This is really hard to believe. ArthurPoet has four bars of Mojo and TU status. ArthurPoet was banned the hard way . New users start out with zero bars of Mojo but they can post diaries and comments.
What we have learned from this exercise is that Mojo as expressed is meaningless when trying to tell whether a user can read a hidden comment. It is also meaningless when trying to establish whether a user is banned.
At DK3 we could be generous and donate subscriptions to other users. That exposed information not available at DK4. Nosub. It might mean banned, warned, suspended, or without comment rating privileges.
I am only aware of one way that might reveal information regarding whether a user is banned. Invite them to a group. At the Beta site I had Soxy the sockpuppet. Soxy was one of two accounts banned there. The other was an actual troll that got manually banned. Soxy was autobanned in a flurry of undeserved donuts. Note the error message.
I AM OF THE OPINION THAT INVITING A USER TO A GROUP FOR THE PURPOSE OF OBTAINING STATUS INFORMATION IS RUDE AND THAT IT CONSTITUTES STALKING. It also doesn't work. I have invited such luminaries as ErrinF and liberal shopper. I didn't get any replies but I was able to send the message. It didn't work at the Beta site either except for those who were banned at the Beta site. Maybe it will work in the future but as I said I think asking is wrong.
Mojo isn't working well yet, how about comment search? As you can see in the pic it has trouble. I have used that word and I joined shortly after the date in the search. It turns out that only comments written since January 1st, 2010 can be searched. The comment search is not particularly intuitive either. From the front page click 'go' next to the search box and then 'comments.' bigchin is a recent wreck list star and is nominated for this exercise.
To fill in the date click in the box. A calendar will pop up. to change month there are invisible boxes on the orange bar to either side of the month. Run backward to Jan 2010 and click on the first. You can also type the date into the box but getting the formatting right isn't intuitive. It'll get better.
bigchin has gotten some donuts recently. The default search is by time. To sort by donuts click on the X in the orange circle. You may have to do it twice.
Lots of donuts. Hidden comments is still linkable. If anyone knows how to link to hide rated comments I would be grateful.
Another observation: bigchin deleted all his diaries. The tags remain as evidence. I haven't yet found anyone who deleted one with a 'troll diary' tag, yet. bigchin has posted a lot of comments and is clearly having a bad week.
