Last night I met a skunk less than 6 feet from me. He had (looked & acted like a male) found his way inside by following a construction path underneath my outbuilding. I made note of that, bought one of those foam-fill the gap cans and then sprayed a bunch to fill the hole by which the skunk had entered. Since the spray contained isocyanates and was dangerous, I opened a rear door to air the place out.
I entered the room and for the second time in two days the skunk was less than 6 feet away. I had already blocked off his regular access points with the expanding polyurethane foam.
Here I was with a skunk, skunked as to how to escape. He was scratching and clawing at all the foam I had used to block the site of his entrance last night. Tonight he entered by a different route, I had left the back door open to allow the fumes to escape from the foam.
Since I am planning to host a party in that same building this Saturday, my plan was to get him out without a spray incident.
When I surprised him, he immediately headed for the same exit he used the night before. It was now blocked with spray foam.
He spent about 5 minutes trying to find a way out near his previous exit.
Thats when I had an idea.
I opened the back door, turned off the lights and grabbed a flashlight. I pointed the flashlight towards the rear exit. He was gone in less than a minute, and he did not spray.
I think he likes me.
Or perhaps he likes my garbage.
