The only crisis in Wisconsin is of the governor's own making. The only shortfall in the state's budget is the result of a give-away to Walker's business cronies . According to the Institute for Wisconsin's Future , rather than solving Special-Interest Walker's self-created problems, "Cutting household income for state, local and school district public-sector families ... will cost the state $1 billion in reduced economic activity."
Leslie Marshall, in her article entitled Union-Busting Gov. Scott Walker Only Hurting Wisconsin , writes, "The president said if we put the car in “R” we’re putting it in reverse. And when the people of Wisconsin voted for Scott Walker for governor, they did just that." I would add to her comment that Special-Interest Walker is blindly running over the middle class as he blindly races backwards.
Walker was funded by the Koch brothers who are pouring millions of dollars into elections across the United States. According to Andy Kroll of Mother Jones, "Charles and David Koch are conservative titans of industry who have infamously used their vast wealth to undermine President Obama and fight legislation they detest, such as the cap-and-trade climate bill, the health care reform act, and the economic stimulus package. For years, the billionaires have made extensive political donations to Republican candidates across the country and have provided millions of dollars to astroturf right-wing organizations."
According to John Nichols of the Nation, "Chants of 'What’s disgusting? Union busting!' shook the building as legislators met in committee rooms late into the night."
This is just the beginning, the first battle in a larger war. There is one power greater than the money the wealthy elites are pouring into our election process. That power defeated a world super power in 1776. That power drove a president from office in Egypt two weeks ago. That power is at work today in Wisconsin to win the first battle in the Koch Bros war against the middle class. Americans have had enough. Fredrick Douglas wisely pointed out that, "The limits of tyrants is circumscribed by the tolerance of those they oppress."
