Welcome to Press the Face, a Sunday-morning talk show liveblog where you can respond to the Sunday talks with your opinions, support, refutations, or ravings. The larger goal is to provide meaningful accounts of the the shows for those who are unable to watch them, but it's also an opportunity to share our thoughts in real time as armchair spectators of the sport of political discussion.
As political unrest spreads throughout the Arab world, a question presents itself: Why couldn't we do that? Ten years of war, bombings, killings, and suppression courtesy of the United States of America failed to accomplish what private citizens armed only with the Internet and their personal convictions could do. As the people of Egypt, Libya, Iran, Iraq, and elsewhere lift their voices as one in a call for change in their governments, we are left to ponder whether, in the end, hemorrhaging our national resources for the purpose of igniting regime change was even a factor in the events shaping the changes in the Middle East today. The answer, sadly, is that it was never ours to do. And even more sadly, many Americans and most of the world knew this before Bushco even took office.
