As a former resident of Los Angeles, I was an avid reader of the L.A. Times for years. I still check it out every so often to see what's going on back in my old stomping grounds, or to read some of the excellent columnists there.
However, for an ostensibly liberal paper, they've been reverting back to the bad old days before Otis Chandler lately. For the second time in three days, they've run an editorial that doesn't quite take Scott Walker's side, but yet treats the unions as if they are not offering any concessions whatsover.
I commented the other day, but it was directed at other commenters. This time, I took aim at the Times itself (as well as a commenter).
My words (and further comment) on the flip...
Editorial here.
Dear God. Socorro here and the Times fail to recognize, that THE UNIONS ALREADY AGREED TO TAKE PAYCUTS AND PAY MORE FOR THEIR BENEFITS!!! I understand a halfwit commentator who's totally wrapped up in his hysterical Glenn Beck mode to not get it, but the LAT? Come on.
The unions have said it time and time again, and everyone just keeps going on like the unions are the ones being jerks. So, for the benefit of everyone here, and hopefully the Times editors will pay attention, THE UNIONS AGREED TO PAYCUTS AND PAYING MORE FOR THEIR BENEFITS!!
All they want is to retain their ability to collectively bargain, and the governor doesn't want that. He wants everything. Government is about compromise. The unions are offering him the fix to the budget, but he wants to crush them for his political gain. His little call with the blogger posing as a Koch brother proved it.
There is nothing more I can't stand then people who are too blinded by their own beliefs to know the damn facts, and the only thing just as bad is an editorial page for one of the nation's leading newspapers continually feeding a one-sided view of this story when they know better. If they don't, they could try calling Wisconsin reporters, who know the whole story. The Times should be ashamed of itself for perpetuating this one-sided story.
I don't know what's going on over at the Times, but it's awful. One of the nation's leading newspapers has been using a style more like the Wall Street Journal's odious editorial page than that of a representative of its community. I would definitely encourage everyone (especially those in Southern California), to let the Times know of your disapproval of its deliberate falsification of the situation in Wisconsin.
