Just a happy (for once!) update from Gimpland.
I just started the seventh chapter of my first attempt at a novel and hit the 60 page mark. If you count the two interludes, brief cutaways from the first person narration, then the total is actually eight chapters completed with the ninth under way.
I've written over 10 twenty-eight plus page comic book scripts, and three 90 plus page stage plays over the last eight years - one of which I directed and received honors from theatre guilds and the Kennedy Center's American College Theater Festival, but this is my first attempt at a novel. I'm having a lot of fun writing it. I currently average at least 2000 words in a sitting and have written up to 5000 words at a time.
When I finish it, I plan to podcast it as a free, serialized audio book to build a following, like one of my favorite writers Scott Sigler has done, and then try to attract publisher interest. I have a background in a radio, and combined with my theater experience should be able to put together a decent audio book.
If any of you would like to read it as I go, feel free to let me know. It's my Other Zoey story, about a young bi-racial woman who is a college freshman and a budding serial killer. Unlike a character like Dexter who was raised with a code, Zoey is having to figure it out for herself as she goes along. It's a lot more shades of gray and plays with the nature of good and evil. It also has an absurdist, surreal setting that adds an element of campy humor to the mix.
I am having way too much fun writing it, and I'm really excited about how well it's going. Just wanted to share.
