I've said what I am about to say in comment after comment here. Never in a Diary.
I come from a family of Republicans. Sane Republicans. You couldn't pay them to watch Glenn Beck or listen to Rush. Fox Noise is a joke to them just like it is a joke to us. My folks and I agree to disagree on only a few topics. Most that we do disagree upon we're not that far apart on.
I say this not to say my folks are smarter or more enlighten then most. But they must, I pray they must be the majority of the Republicans that are not like the 15-20% that think Obama was born gosh knows where and I want to kill fetus on my day off (I don't BTW).
Their voice is just never heard cause they are not shit all crazy. A few stories below the fold.
In 2007 my father got a mailer from McCain. Inviting him to a $5,000 a plate fundraiser. Now my father has as PhD in Military History. Taught at the Army War College. In fact one of my earliest memories was walking hands in hand with my dad, when I was 4 (in 1973) to see a "great American" speak. He was McCain.
My father said he'd gave before but he didn't have anything left. All they wanted was more and more money. He had a lot more money to give ....
Then Palin got into it with McCain.
My mom working two jobs to put my father through grad school in the 60s. Smartest person in our family. You don't fu*k with my mom. We call her the "little general." She openly told me she was embarrassed by Palin. A direct quote:
She [Palin] is an afford to smart women everywhere ....
Mom for the first time in 67 years on this earth voted for a Democrat, Obama. Not cause she liked him, but cause she couldn't stand Palin.
Fast-forward to today ....
My parents have many issues with Obama. I think at the top of it is what I like to call "Sane Republican Obama Fatigue." They are the Republicans when if somebody says he wasn't born in the US or he is a communist or socialist they will say no he was born in the US and then question if they understand the definition of "communist" or "socialist."
They are as tired of this as we are ....
My father worked at high levels within the DoD. Civil Service. Before that as a professor at LSU and Texas Tech. My side of the family you can count on one finger. My mom's side, maybe 9 people work as nurses, teachers, or firefighters.
Tell us unions don't matter and see how that works out for yeah ....
A side story.
On my side of the family there is my father, mom, me, and my brother. I got no children (head hung low), but within days of my parents first grandchild being born a fund was set-up for her education. A few weeks ago when my grandfather passed away we all agreed to roll-over his money given to us to her fund.
When we are done she will be able to get her education anyplace she wants .... like I was and like my brother, father, his father, and his father before him were able to.
Oh tell us education doesn't matter.
But maybe in classrooms, well you should get where I am going here. My parents might not be liberals but they are educated and not stupid.
They can't be the Republican minority at this point can they?
