Yesterday, Jackie Robinson was honoured in Montreal, as part of Black history month. A plaque was unveiled at the home where they lived so happily. His daughter was present, as was the US ambasssador, David Jacobson, and the Mayor of Montreal. Read the Canadian Press article and watch two videos from CTV news, back-to-back, here:

Montreal is my home town. When I was a kid, all the future Dodgers greats of the 50's to early 70's played there for the AAA Royals. I used to cut out all their pics from the Montreal Star -Robinson, Snider RIP, Reese, Roseboro, Amoros, Koufax, Drysdale, Lasorda, Ken Lehman, Clem Labine, Podres, Craig, Newcombe, Gil Hodges, Rocky Nelson, Chuck (The Rifleman Connors), Jim Gilliam, Ron Perranoski, Don Hoak, Campy, Ed Roebuck, Walter Alston and more.
I was off school with chickenpox during the '55 series, saw every game live, in the afternoon, before videotape. I remember Sandy Amoros catch, it is etched indelibly in my mind, 56 years later. Shortly after that, I was playing in the back lane with a friend. We found a pile of coal dust left by furnace cleaners. We both decided on the spot to become Sandy Amoros. Kids are colour-blind, I still am.

Once a Dodgers fan, always a Dodger.
