I don't know about you but I was raised to use my manners. If I didn't,lord help me. Perhaps it's just me but it seems like saying "thank you" isn't as common as it used to be. Is it because folks are in such a hurry? Is it because folks don't think to show their appreciation in what I think is a very simple but classy way? I don't know what the deal is but the phone call I received a little while ago surprised me. More below the fold.

I was in the hospital for a week earlier this month for a few reasons. The most painful being two hairline fractures in my right hip and Bursitis from the waist down on the right side. I'm having to use a walker again and it's driving me crazy but it's not as if I have much of a choice.

My balance is still off {I usually use a cane}from the Stroke I had several years ago. Add the hip and Bursitis to the mix and it spells out "stairs royally freakin' suck!" I've lost my balance and fallen down the evil suckers four times since I've been home.

Due to the most recent fall my doctor ordered additional xrays as he suspects some damage to my pelvis. Just what I needed,NOT.

Like a fool I decided to walk from my doctors office to the main hospital yesterday to get the xrays done. Hell it's just across the street and down a couple hallways...I was on
the verge of tears by the time I got to the door of the main hospital.

So,getting back to the "thank you" thing. A hospital staff member saw me coming, opened the door and kindly offered her assistance. She got a wheelchair and took me down to xray. I thanked her on the spot but would have liked to sent her a thank you note. The only problem is that I didn't get her name.

I decided to write a letter to the editor of our local paper with a very short explanation of what happened to say thank you to this lady. They call before printing to confirm that you wrote it and do in fact want it printed. This was the call I mentioned earlier.

After I confirmed that it was mine and wanted it to be printed she said "we don't get thank you notes very often but we love to put em' in print when we do!" The note took me all of two minutes to type up and submit, two minutes to say "thank you". Old school or not,I did what I felt was right.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
