I don't typically look at CNN much but for some reason I decided to look at the CNN website today at lunch and was greeted with a TOP STORY that just made my stomach turn. The title of the story is "Are whites racially oppressed?"
The story starts off my quoting some statistics:
A recent Public Religion Research Institute poll found 44% of Americans surveyed identify discrimination against whites as being just as big as bigotry aimed at blacks and other minorities. The poll found 61% of those identifying with the Tea Party held that view, as did 56% of Republicans and 57% of white evangelicals.
I am a 41 year old white male. I am not oppressed in any way, shape or form and never have been in my whole life. I have seen racial oppression firsthand, however. Many of my African American friends are frequently passed over for jobs that they are more than qualified for, my 2 step-children (who are half African American) were racially bullied in school (called the N word and worse) and both of them deal with the same crap almost daily now that they are adults.
WTF is wrong with these idiots? Are they all suffering from some form of mass narcissism that prevents them from seeing the obvious? THEY are the racists... they are the people who have such a sense of self-entitlement that they feel like they have been cheated in some way because their beloved John McCain and Sarah Palin didn't get elected... but rather a BLACK MAN! was elected President! How could that happen to those poor white people?!!!
This whole thing has made me realize that there is so much more work to be done...
There is a quote that I find particularly ignorant...
Did [whites] become racist after electing the first black president? - Mona Charen, conservative columnist
First of all, I am quite certain that "Mona Charen" didn't vote for President Obama... so my question is... how does that statement preclude her from being a racist (or any of the other "conservative" douche-bags that consider themselves to be racially oppressed)? I am quite certain that it is well within reason to state that a great majority of the people that voted for McCain over Obama could possibly done so because race WAS a factor in their vote... whether consciously or unconsciously. I am clearly not stating that everyone who voted for McCain was a racist... I am merely stating that it is within reason for me to say that I think it's reasonable to think that race may have played a part in their decision.
GOD! I am so freaking sick of this bullshit. When did America get taken over by inanity?
