The Inoculation Project: Math & Science in Red State Schools
Solid science education is the best inoculation against ignorance.
The objective of this weekly project is to combat the anti-science push in conservative America by providing direct funding each week to math and science projects in red state classrooms.
Fortunately, a conduit organization for achieving this direct funding already exists: DonorsChoose.org. DonorsChoose.org allows you to make direct contributions to specific classroom projects (all vetted), resulting in tremendous and immediate impacts from small dollar donations.
Each week we focus on funding a single small-dollar project in a traditionally red state classroom. These are projects whose funding requests are expiring within the next week. If the projects are not funded by their expiration date, they die.

Teacher's Comments:
My Students
Time is money! Please help me receive these wonderful learning materials. They will be a great addition to my math lessons. They will provide hands on experience and help my students master the concepts they are struggling with including time and money.
I teach 2nd grade in Utah. My students are the light of my life. They are very sweet children. Though most of them struggle with the work that we do in class, they are hard workers and they never give up. They are fun to have in class. They share their amazing personalities with me and make teach a fun experience. Some of the students in my class do not have the strongest home environment and I am so thankful to get to be a positive role model for them. I have fantastic students who deserve the best education they can get!
My Project
I am trying to get several things for my class including the following items;
Money Kit: From comparing money values and counting out change to adding and subtracting with coins and bills, the activity-filled money kit provides lots of realistic practice with money skills!
Hands on regrouping kits for addition and subtraction: Students master addition and subtraction skills…with fun-to-use regrouping kits that make complicated math problems easy to solve! Students simply place a problem card onto the tray, count out place value tiles to visually represent each number in the equation—then just regroup the tiles to work out the answer.
Number line activity chart: This versatile chart helps students visualize math concepts...and get hands-on practice with addition and subtraction!
Base ten blocks: These blocks help children learn about place value and can also make addition and subtraction with borrowing and regrouping easy to understand.
Geared clocks: Make it easy to tell and show time.
We are a title one school, about half of our students are receiving free or reduced lunched based on their family income. These students do not get the extra help they need from their families at home. I want to provide my students with the best education possible and know that these hands on products will help them be successful in their education.
Please consider rescuing this project by making a small donation to it. Small dollars make a big difference.

Good News
Last week's project, CSI: Classroom Science Investigation, got rescued!
Here's what the teacher had to say:
We are anxiously awaiting all the awesome materials we ordered and that you all so graciously helped us buy. Thank you for making these items available for our class to explore their outside world more fully! We will achieve more because of your help and interest in the future Scientist.
We also rescued last week's bonus project, Math Monster Mania!
The tools that you have funded will enable students to use manipulatives and the hands-on tools to explore math problems, which will help in making math and learning fun. In addition, I will be able to set up independent learning through math stations so the children can explore together. I am so excited to share these stations with our 3rd grade math buddies also. They love to help the Kindergartners with math stories teaching addition and subtraction skills.
