Lately I have been doing diaries that have folks laughing a bit. But now I want to touch on our differences here on the site. In one corner we have the hopeful crowd. They are behind the President and think that what he has done he has done for valid reasons. In the other corner we have folks who think the President could and should have done things differently and we would have had different results and feel things are still heading in the wrong direction.
In space, no one can hear you scream. On Earth, no one listens.
The difference between hope and despair boils down to an ability to spin different stories from the same facts. There you have it folks, we have the facts and we have the spin. What we don't have is the ability to predict the future. One side is going to end up being more right then the other, and only time will tell.
I do declare that we have come to an impasse. One where we don't have much to do or say. We don't have influence on our elected leaders, all the calls to congress have resulted in what? I am curious to hear what people think. We have done a ton of calling and to me it looks like the results are negligible.
The folks in Wisconsin have a Wisconsin based situation and have shown that Walker is out of his mind and has to go, and I admire the unions sticking together and doing what needs to be done to make a difference in their lives. Now, can we take this show on the road? We have cities and towns going broke across the country, we have towns where you have to fill out an application to have the police look into your case, we have houses burning because fire houses have closed and fire trucks have to come from other towns to fight fires. Is there a tipping point we are going to reach where people take to the streets and demand higher taxes on the rich to pay for services? Does someone have to die in a fire because a fire station was closed? Does crime have to destroy a town that can't afford cops?
Right now we call and we write to our elected officials. We work on elections, we knock on doors we make calls and we drive people to the polls. Is that enough? Has that gotten us anywhere? Or are we just waiting until something sets off a spark and we end up taking to the streets to finally take control of our corrupt system and fix it?
As for out here I am going to live by this credo, "Someone grant me the serenity not to slap annoying people, the courage not to insult them & the wisdom to know it's not worth the effort anyway."
