Hello, Cranky Users! I know you need a good place to gather and be cranky, so even though I'm short on time this afternoon (and cranky about it!), we can do a little review of what's bugging us and what we hope to see improved. Let's slither past the squiggle with a grateful hat tip to aoeu for the beautiful crank illustration!
We have high hopes this week to see the repair of the infamous "cache bug", which causes a ton of seemingly random problems. Once that is done, broken mojo is expected to be quick to fix. Our excitement is palpable!
That won't fix everything, though. There are still issues like, when you click to see who has tipped a comment, the box is of a fixed size and can't show more than 65 or so names (sometimes it quits in the middle of one), and if you are one of the later names, your recommend button or box won't appear to be checked, although you can alter the count by clicking and un-clicking it.
Of course auto-refresh is still broken -- it makes the screen jump around as new comments are added, and some of us report not seeing notice of new comments other than our own, or having auto-refresh turn itself off and need to be turned on in our profiles.
We're still cranky that with many lists, if you click on a list item, the back button brings you to the top of the list, so you lose your place. (A workaround is, right-click on the list item and open it in a new tab or window.) And some of us are cranky about the new workflow for editing already-published diaries, where publishing changes deposits you outside your diary instead of in it.
We're VERY cranky that the publishing process apparently eats the occasional diary for lunch! We highly recommend that everyone paste a copy of a diary ready to be published into something else, whether it's a document, text file, or another diary draft in a different window. That's too much work to lose!
We learned some things that are not bugs, most notably Sylv's famous LARGEST DKOS COMMENT EVER, which showed us why we should not nest the <big> tag 20 times. It's notable that the big heart didn't look all that big to some users, including Sylv, and we got a good explanation of that from rs.
We learned that, if you preview your comment and the preview is up above where you can see it, pressing ENTER will bring it onto your screen without scrolling. We learned that, although the rec list has a "next" button, only the first 12 items, the first pageful, are regarded as the rec list.
AND, thanks to Otteray Scribe, we learned that this ♨ is the symbol for a hot spring!
We'll close with an excellent question, from flitedocnm, that I can't answer, but maybe a reader can: When inserting a link, how can we code the link to open in a new page without the user's intervention?
Okay, my cranky friends -- you know this thread is for you, to express your crankiness, kvell about your triumphs, and share anything you may know that we do not. Let's hear from you!
