It's that time again kids, time to let our hair down, put on some trash, forget about the cash, (or crash) and par taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. Tonight is a combination of Blues, Jazz and some R&B to round it out, and if you have anything else to add, please feel free to do so.
Feel free to indulge in your favorite libations and I've ordered 1000 cases of cheetos and 1000 pair of silk pajamas for your pleasure.
Let's begin the night with a kick of one of my all time favorites, the late great Mr. Joe Williams with CleanHead Vinson.
HOLD IT RIGHT THERE....
Next up - (get off your booties and dance people, how can you not with this one)
The great, great Staple Singers:
For variety, one of my all time favorite Jobim songs: The Waters of March/ Águas de Março performed by: - Elis Regina and Tom Jobim -
Ms. Bonnie Raitt: You Better Love Me Like a Man
Randy Crawford and Joe Sample hitting some Latin Jazz here with Rio de Janeiro Blues
Slowing it down here minute or so - One of my all time favorite songs (that I always included in my own performances) by one of my all time favorite jazz singers, Ms. Carmen McRae singing Round Midnight written by Monk - (my favorite lyric: Don't measure your pleasure in nickles and dimes).
Nobody, and I mean nobody could sing blues better than Ms. Dinah Washington, for your pleasure Back Water Blues:
There is a saying in jazz, 'less is more,' and Yes, once upon a time, singers didn't have to scream and yell and do acrobatic voice tricks, and Ella was always at her best, when she was in a simple setting with one instrument: The Man I Love, is the name of this beautiful ballad. (Nobody could ever scat like Ella, (and there are lots of people that should be dragged off to vocal jail that try to and should not go there).
Ms. Diana Krall knows her jazz (aka known as Mrs. Elvis Costello). Take a note significant other ones, as to how to 'do the job right' in her lyrics: Peel Me A Grape...
A classic from Marvin Gaye: Troubled Man - can't get enough of this great old song:
'Lady's choice' dance number from one of my favorite jazz singers, Etta Jones (a lot of people don't know about her, but she is/was great) Name of the song: Don't Go To Strangers.
OK, last one, from a great great Quincy Jones CD called Juke Joint. It is a compilation of many artists, and this song has Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder on it.
Hope I mixed it up enough for you'all. I probably overdid it but I was having so much fun. (Yes there is a shortage of jazz here, but that's because I thought maybe there were not enough jazz lovers here). Anyway enjoy, and put your own favorites up. Thanks to all my wonderful friends here, for letting me share this music, as music has been my life for so long.
Ms. B.
