Greetings, Cranky Users! I couldn't resist that title, even though I would not for the world suggest that either DK4 or any of us is a "clunker". There was quite an important fix over the weekend. Let's shimmy past the squiggle and talk about it.
So, on Saturday, elfling announced that the famous "cache bug" fix had been installed. The big thing this was supposed to fix was the constant FAILing of recommends, but there continued to be sporadic issues until the next day, when ct announced an additional workaround was added. I, for one, am now no longer getting the big FAIL messages and having to click a million times to rec a comment. As a bonus, the additional bug with the size of the box to list recommenders was fixed, so now you can see everyone who's recced a popular tip jar, not just the first 64½ of them.
Obviously, that was a nettlesome problem that took forever to track down, and we are greatly appreciative! It's a big quality-of-life change. At the same time, on the road to that fix, the cache bug's legend grew in song and story, and it's difficult to imagine that the installed fix has actually cured as many things as we had hoped it would. Presumably mojo is now on the workbench, as that was the next thing promised. This seems like a good time to take stock of what is still broken (or newly broken, since as elfling pointed out, a big fix that touches lots of stuff can introduce new problems as well). What, other than mojo, are you seeing that might need addressing next?
Also! If you are a new-ish user, I direct your attention to this diary from Angie in WA State, who is on a special mission from God kos to learn why we became registered users. Even if you are very very cranky now, perhaps you'd care to share your story.
Please share what you know in the comments! Bugs, complaints, information that can help your fellow Cranky Users!
