The Daily Bucket is a place to catch your casual observations of the natural world and turn them into a valuable resource. Whether it's the first flowers of spring or that odd bug in your basement, don't be afraid to toss your thoughts into the bucket. Check here for a more complete description.
Yesterday's surprise snow turned into a kind of pale grey slush almost as soon as it hit the ground, and this morning it's still hanging on in blobs and patches -- as if someone had spilled a platter of some not-quite-white Jell-o across my hillside and woods. Combined with a lowering overcast sky that has the tops of the opposing ridge cloaked in streamers of mist, it's hard to imagine a day that could look too much less appealing.
Naturally, I have to drive several hundred miles today. So... uggh.
No advance on the greenery here. The slush-fall seems to have chilled the daffodils and croci in place. I did see a trio of turkeys. Unlike the excited young male that fearlessly strutted on my drive a few days back, these were at a distance, but it does seem to indicate that they are starting to congregate. Should be hearing some calls in the next few weeks.
What's happening at your place? Oh, and since I'm on the road today, the map may be slow to update.
Today's observations come from these locations
Share your own observations in comments, and I'll add a marker to the map. Please give a city and state (as close as you feel comfortable in providing). Green pins for observations mostly about plants, brown for animals, and blue for weather or other inorganic items. The letter at the center of each pin will be the first letter of the user who provides the data.
