This was on Joe My God so I thought sharing it to the greater community would be a good idea.
It is important that we as the people of this country take the reins of supporting those in need not only here in the U.S. but where ever human suffering occurs. Just like in Wisconsin where those we have placed to represent us have turned their backs on the will of the people I again fear that the support Japan gets during these trying times is dependent on what those in power feel they can get out of it financially.
So please watch the video below the fold and do what you can to make human suffering a thing of the past.
I have been wondering what it was I could do as one with a fixed income lost in the ether of the Federal government to support those suffering from this tragedy. In placing this video out on the internet we have a LGBT leader yet again pointing the way for us to join together as humans and make a difference.
What I will be doing is contacting his organization to let them know there is a safe room available to a Transgender or LGB citizen of Japan available here for the duration. It is not much that I can do but I will gladly sleep on the floor to ensure one of my brothers or sisters are safe.
Transcription of the video all errors are my own:

A personal message from George Takei about the quake and tsunami in Japan

Gaman is a word to be spoken and heard
In this place where each face
Tells a story of pain

Days ago we watched in collective horror as the earth shook and the waters rose in Japan.
Thousands lost their lives many thousands more are still unaccounted for and countless remain without food, clean water, shelter or power in the bitter winter.
Today we must act with collective resolve; in Japanese we say gaman which means to endure with fortitude and dignity. In the spirit of gaman I ask you for help today.
Female singer:
Gaman, gaman, gaman sturdy and sure keep faith and endure.
Narration:
Even small amounts given with great amounts of heart can make a real difference.
