Over the past couple days NHK TV in Japan has been highlighting the plight of citizens near the Fukushima plant, caught in a nether region between the 20km evacuation zone and the 30km stay-indoors zone.
I thought I'd bring it to the attention of people here if this story isn't making it into US coverage.
Here's a clip from several hours ago, broadcast about 9pm local time in Japan. It's quite heartbreaking, as so many of these stories are, but notable for the particularly irony that the residents are told to stay home, but due to the nuclear panic, no truck driver wants to bring supplies into the area, and the people only have a few days of food and water remaining. They don't have the gasoline to leave if they wanted to, and many people have no heat. The news anchors talk to a nursing home worker in Minamisoma, 25 km from the plant, as well as the mayor of that town, who sounds very angry about the situation:
