If you’re not from Georgia, when you first speak with Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA4) you might be swayed by his slow Southern drawl into thinking he’s an affable, but laid-back legislator. Sorry, but you’d also be the fool. In fact, Rep. Johnson, Whip for the Progressive Caucus and Southeast Regional Whip for the Democratic Caucus, is an aggressive fighter for Progressive values.
In the past two weeks alone, Johnson has:
* Led the call for investigations into ChamberLeaks and in fact Congress has now opened said investigation
* Has demanded DOD and NSA review of contracts with HBGary
* Introduced a bill to make it illegal to discriminate against unemployed people in the hiring process
* And today, after participating in the House Armed Services Committee hearing, announced he wasn't satisfied with answers regarding Bradley Manning’s detention
Both to further the Progressive agenda/defeat the GOP-Tea Party agenda, and to thank Rep. Johnson for his bold leadership in these battles, we’re running a 24 hour moneybomb on ActBlue to raise $1000 tonight.
This is a test of the strength and determination of the Netroots. We’re not looking for large contributions to put us over the top: $5, $10, $15 …whatever you can afford. If we can demonstrate our strength, even in small amounts, it gives us a voice.
Progressive Caucus Chair, Rep. Raúl Grijalva, has said of Johnson:
The Progressive Caucus is going to be on the front lines of every political fight looking out for the American people’s interests, and we need the right people in place to get the job done...Hank Johnson is a good man, a smart negotiator and a strong progressive voice in Congress, and he’s a tremendous asset. As we work not only to defeat the Republican agenda but to bring fresh ideas to the table and give the voters real choices, Rep. Johnson is going to play a key role in getting support for those fresh ideas.
We have to back our best players. Hank Johnson is one of those. The Money-bomb is going overnight tonight; please
donate what you can.
Thank you....and a big thank you to Rep. Hank Johnson!
