It could have been this adorable dog!
Some weeks are especially productive. And then there was this last week.
After getting a rare break, ct pushed some minor changes on Saturday, meant to clear up a couple of little but important issues:
- Next/back links fixed
- A new caption style with left-align
- Some autoformat fixes
We expected that was just a little quick update and then we'd do a more major push on Sunday with various more obvious changes.
Funny thing.
At nearly the same time, what I can only surmise was some sympathetic echo off of Japan hit us. ct started noticing some odd behavior and was investigating the dev box, only to be struck by a cascade of memory failure, motherboard failure, and disk failures. It metaphorically melted into a puddle of goo... and it didn't even have the decency to just be done with it, but instead teased him along mercilessly thinking that he'd solve it with just one more change, that we'd be able to restore it. Three days, six hard drives, a motherboard, and some other stuff later, he's not a happy guy. We didn't lose any data, just three days of ct's life that he's not getting back.
Now, normally, Hunter and I would be breathing down his neck, because we need that machine to test our changes so we can code. But, thanks to an apparently very exciting Northern California windstorm, we lost power and didn't get it back for 40 hours. (Fun fact: PG&E owes you $25 if you go more than 48 hours without power due to an outage.) It was my very own observation of Electricity Appreciation Day whereupon I remembered just how wonderful it is to be able to have running water and to be able to cook indoors. And, I gave thanks to AlphaGeek's wonderful disaster series for turning me on to LED lanterns and to some of the other quite useful supplies we have in our kit.
So anyway, that's a long rambly excuse for why there are no new goodies tonight.
And every time there was a mutter of discontent, I thanked our lucky stars that none of this happened six weeks ago.
So, you wonder, what's on deck next?
Well, uh, it looks a lot like the last list I sent out.
- Automatic tagging of Rescued diaries with "Rescued"
- Better user flow for the case where you get an error message that wants you to add tags to a diary
- Ability for groups to follow tags
- Adding the comment count back to the bottom of a diary
- Issues with formatting buttons
- Update timestamps should be in the diarist's time zone, and be stamped with time zone.
- Alleviate confusion between My Groups (where I'm a contributor) and my list of followed groups
- Make history list available in the menu to users other than themselves
- More obvious designation of banned users
- no doubt, Some Other Stuff will pop up.
So here's to a more productive and less Interesting™ upcoming week.
