Wendys Wink just posted a Granny diary, Trunk Sniff'n Dust, starting with a reference to John Henry. That song reminded me of this one, a protest song that I've always loved.
Tennessee Ernie Ford Sings 16 Tons
This is from a 1956 television broadcast. Although the song is presented with quite a bit of polish the lyric is right out of Granny's mind. "I owe my soul to the company store".
