What Are You Working On is a community diary series for all things crafty, in a variety of mediums and techniques.
You may volunteer to guest host by signing up at this yahoo group, which I check from time to time. Also by joining this group, you will receive one email a week when the diary is posted.
I have wondered if dkos 4.0's messaging system has replaced the yahoo group. Any thoughts? Are there people on the yahoo group who are not followers? I supposed if I sent a group message, it would go to contributors and editors but not followers?
Many thanks to maggiejean, who hosted last week when I was freaking out and had no working camera. I have since not only acquired a new camera (which takes very sharp pictures), my son showed me how to take pictures on my cell phone.
Anyway, back to toys:
Continuing from my last diary and using Knitting Mochimochi, I finished knitting the alligator:
I have a few more ends to weave in, then I can stuff and stitch his mouth in place. I am a little worried though about what will happen when he's finished.
This is why knitting toys is toys is more fun than knitting other things ;-)
Here are individual shots of my mini-knitting:
(One of last pictures taken by old camera)
Son's orange hamster
Daughter's sparkly Vanna White yarn hamster. Half of daughter's dolls and stuffed critters are named "Sparkles."
Meanwhile, I am truly nearly finished with the Pebbles and Waves scarf, and it is going off to be auctions for the Progress Congress News (hey spedwybabs, how do I put in a link to your site or your auction?)
I already started designing a second scarf in this theme for the Netroots Nation fall auctions, and I picked up some nice dark blue yarn after church today to use for it.
Daughter finished her scarf and modeled it for us:
She finally got a lot better at having the same number of stitches in every row. ;-)
I wrote a little pattern and started this little scarf for her American Girl Doll (who is not named Sparkles, rather "Libby.")
Libby’s Scarf
Cast on 7 stitches.
Row 1: Knit 7 stitches (front side)
Row 2: Knit 7 stitches
Row 3: Knit 7 stitches
Row 4: Knit 7 stitches
Row 5: Knit 7 stitches
Row 6: Purl 7 stitches
Row 7: Knit 7 stitches
Row 8: Purl 7 stitches
Repeat above sequence (Knit 5 rows, Purl/Knit/Purl) until desired length. End with Knit 5 rows. Cast off.
I wrote this so my daughter could acquire a few new skills, and have a small, achievable project. For this one, she learned to purl, and practiced reading a pattern.
Son also picked up his loom knitting, but it seems this tube will be too small to be a babydoll hat.
Oh, and I casted on for two new toys:
They are both intended to be gifts. Although it is pretty fun to keep a few of the recent knitted items around here.
