Cue Lucy:
"At the end of last week the House Republicans did a strange thing," said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on the Senate floor Tuesday morning. "They pulled back from the talks. They changed their minds about what level of spending cuts they could accept. We were right on the verge of a potential breakthrough and they suddenly moved the goalposts."
A strange thing? A strange thing? A STRANGE THING????
What planet have you been living on for the past two years, Senator Schumer? Were you in a coma for the entire health care "negotiations" fiasco in the Senate? Did you just wake up a la Rip Van Winkle?
Let's be clear here. Republicans do not negotiate. They state what they want, and then when you give it to them, they demand more. I can understand wanting to negotiate. I can understand wanting to make a deal. But wanting something really bad does not make it come true. Republicans' strategy of faux negotiations has been clear for political eons, as this Maddow clip from eight months ago demonstrates:
I can only ask: Have you no sense sir, at long last? Have you left no sense?
