This is what one presumptive presidential candidate of the Republican party had to say this week:
"The social security system in my opinion is a flawed design, period. But, having said that, the design would work a lot better if we had stable demographic trends. ... The reason social security is in big trouble is we don't have enough workers to support the retirees. Well, a third of all the young people in America are not in America today because of abortion, because one in three pregnancies end in abortion."
First,
Social Security is not in "big trouble". I know everyone here knows that it's fully funded for decades and it's future deficits could easily be fixed by adjusting the tax to once again apply to 90% of income, but never mind that: we know Republicans will continue their "shock doctrine" scaremongering until Social Security is privatized.
This though is an even more cynical attempt to blame women for the imagined social security "trouble". Specifically those stupid and selfish women who dare exercise some control over their reproductive system. Who cares that there is only one job available for every five looking, to Republicans it's just another chance to blame women. Who cares that the United States' demographics couldn't be any more stable when blaming women wins Republican votes in Iowa? If Republicans were serious about expanding the work base to collect more Social Security taxes they'd embrace "amnesty" immigration policies, but brown people, like women, are just another one of their piñatas.
Meanwhile, tomorrow, March 30th, Ohio is scheduled to vote on HB125, the "heartbeat bill", that will effectively make it illegal for women to exercise control over their reproductive organs after 6-8 weeks:
The law, HB 125, would outlaw all abortions (except in medical emergency) after a heartbeat could be detected: roughly 6 to 8 weeks after conception. This is so early in pregnancy that many women would not even know they were pregnant before the chance for abortion had passed... which is undoubtedly the point. Attacking first-trimester pregnancies is important for anti-abortion activists because 88% of all abortions occur before 12 weeks gestation.
They're obviously eager to retest abortion restrictions under the John Roberts court. We'll see if Republicans move
one step closer to their dream of a return to botched back-alley abortions for the poor tomorrow. They moved one step closer in Kansas today, where their House sent Gov. Brownback a
bill severely restricting abortions after 22 weeks. The only exception is for the woman's physical health, no exception exists for women like the
Deavers in Nebraska who had to hold their baby, whom doctors had warned would die upon birth, while it suffocated because the diagnosis came after 20 weeks (the legal limit for abortion in Nebraska). For Republicans that's the exact intention of these laws. Don't believe me?
Meet Clark Jolley, the Republican legislator who had this wisdom to share with the rest of us as Oklahoma moves to join Nebraska in criminalizing abortions after 20 weeks:
The measure does not provide an exemption in situations where the unborn child will not survive once it is born because of a medical problem.
"They will have zero chance of survival if they abort," Jolley said.
Jolley said parents will need to make a decision prior to 20 weeks.
"They may not be viable, but they can feel pain," Jolley said of an unborn child
Yes Jolly they can feel pain,
that's the exact reason women like Deaver, Julia, gratis4, and countless others seek to end their pregnancies: to save their child unnecessary pain. What callous fucks people like Jolley are!
