Rick Santorum, a 2012 Republican hopeful whose claim to fame may be that he occasionally allows Michele Bachmann to appear marginally sane, has come out with a novel anti-abortion argument:
“The Social Security system, in my opinion, is a flawed design, period. But, having said that, the design would work a lot better if we had stable demographic trends. … The reason Social Security is in trouble is that we don’t have enough workers to support the retirees.
“Well, a third of of all the young people in America are not in America today because of abortion — because one-in-three pregnancies end in abortion.”
And if you leave aside the fact that Social Security isn't in trouble and that one in three pregnancies doesn't end in abortion, you'll see that he makes an interesting argument. Assuming you find it interesting that Santorum abandoned the usual morality justification and suggested that women be forced to churn out workers to support the elderly.
Interesting ... or creepy.
