Remember arch-conservative Rick Santorum? Bob Casey beat him in 2006 to win the U.S. Senate seat from Pennsylvania, which led him to think, six years later, that he should run for President of the United States. Santorum's also the guy who in 2003 essentially put homosexuality in the same category as a “man on dog” relationship. Take a look at the transcript here.
Now he’s got a new analysis of society’s problems that demonstrates his great intellectual acumen. The real problem with Social Security is caused by…wait for it…abortion. Here's what he had to say.
"The Social Security system in my opinion is a flawed design, period. But having said that, the design would work a lot better if we had stable demographic trends," Santorum said. "A third of all the young people in America are not in America today because of abortion."
My solution to this problem is after the jump, if you'll follow me.
I’m not even going to deal with the ways in which Santorum's statement is, on its face, ludicrous, ethically and morally reprehensible, and just plain inaccurate. That would be giving it far too much credit.
But let’s have some fun. Social Security is in trouble, the good Senator tells us, because there aren’t enough working people to support all of our elderly folks in the years going forward. Well, Senator, hallelujah! I’ve got a solution. Instead of working to reduce the number of illegal immigrants, let’s try and recruit some more to help us save Social Security.
Illegal immigrants are even better than legal ones because those cuddly undocumented workers can’t even collect Social Security when they get older. They just pay into Social Security with their fake Social Security numbers, but never get anything out of the program. And they come here already ready to work, no need to raise them from infancy or educate them or anything else that might cost us money. Problem solved! Senator Santorum would undoubtedly be thrilled.
Although he hasn’t yet embraced an increase of illegal immigration as the solution to Social Security’s problems, I’m sure he will any minute now. He’s a logical guy, and this is a logical solution to the problem he so cogently identified.
