Two 22 year olds walk into a bar. One is white and the other is black.
Bartender says "Guys, I'll need to see some ID.''
White guy shows his driver's license. The bartender reads it, sees it's not a fake and says: "OK"
Black guy shows his driver's license. Bartender reads it, sees it's not a fake and says: "What else have you got?
"What?" "What's wrong with this?"
"Nothing. But I want to see more. There's something fishy about you. You got a car registration in your car?"
"Yeah I got it in my car. So what?"
"So why don't you go get it?" "What are you trying to hide?"
White guy says: "Screw you, asshole. --- Let's get out of here, pal."
Unless the white guy is Donald Trump. He says. "Yeah. I always thought there was something fishy about you. And I'm a smart guy. I went to Wharton and was a good student. Why don't you go to your car? What are you trying to hide?"
The state of Hawaii has issued the document that states, according to an examination of their records, simple facts about Obama. Born August 4, 1961. City: Honolulu. Mother: Stanley Ann Dunham. Father: Barack Hussein Obama Sr. This is the document required by the US to obtain a passport and to prove citizenship. It's not a forgery.
But people like Trump think something is "fishy" and are justified in asking for more.
What's wrong with providing more?
Because it's an insult to be asked in first place. And it would make no difference in the second place. Whatever evidence given (and thankfully Obama has not offered any) it would be explained away. The birthers have already dismissed contemporaneous newspaper birth announcements, statements of friends of the family, statements of officials who have examined records. Everything can be explained away if you are conspiracy theorist.
It's probably good for Democrats since it makes the Trumps' of the world look like heroes to the bigoted birthers and forces the "responsible" candidates to take a side against them.
"Ouch" cries, Karl Rove. "Don't make our candidates talk about this. It will drive a wedge between the birthers and independents."
Hopefully it should. It exposes that Trump is just expressing attitudes shared by a good portion Republicans.
