Darrell Issa (R-CA), the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has an irony problem (in addition to the unsurprising ethical, conflict-of-interest problem).
Seems that the "good government crusader" has steered some earmarks toward a project that benefits him personally. I know - you're shocked! shocked! that the man who called President Obama "the most corrupt ever" might have feet of clay ...
Think Progress reported Wednesday that Issa bought a commercial property in Vista, CA, in 2008, then inserted earmarks in both 2008 and 2009 for transportation improvements to the highway next to the site. He didn't get everything he asked for ($2 million - he has a sad...), but he did lock down $800,000. Oh, and he owns another property about two miles down the road from the first one, which also would benefit from the improvements.
Ed Schultz covered it that night, and even coined a new term for it: "Here-marks."
And on March 1, Roll Call had a story about some shady maneuverings involving linkage between his car alarm company's and his campaign's websites.
I'm sure that a lot of Kossacks keep an eye on Think Progress and Ed, but there are probably folks who missed this story, and it left me furious. I've done a search and can't find that anyone has written about it yet. If I missed a diary on this, let me know and I'll delete it.
