My already low opinion of Mike Huckabee just got a whole lot lower. Mike Huckabee's enthusiastic admiration for self styled theologian David Barton is profoundly disturbing.
Huckabee: Americans Should Be Forced, At Gunpoint, To Learn From David Barton
David Barton introduced Mike Huckabee at the Rediscover God In America conference, praising him as the epitome of the "Black Robe Regiment" mentality of seeking to apply the Bible to every aspect of the culture.
Huckabee, in turn, repaid the compliments to Barton, calling him one of the most effective communicators in America and wishing that every American would be forced, at gunpoint, to listen to every Barton broadcast:
HUCKABEE: I, I almost wish there could be a simultaneous telecast and all Americans would be forced,...FORCED at gun point no less,...to listen to EVERY David Barton message.
Huckabee: All Americans Should Be Forced at Gunpoint to Listen to David Barton
...the Rediscover God in America conference, where all the same potential 2012 Republican presidential hopefuls that appeared at the Saturday's Conservative Principles PAC conference told us what they really think -- that America should be governed by biblical law.
Huckabee apparently tried to conceal his remarks about Barton from wider public attention since they were edited out of the web-cast from the Rediscover God In America conference.
I was quite surprised a few days later to come across a video clip from this conference on the People for the American Way (PFAW) Right Wing Watch blog with the headline "Huckabee: Americans Should Be Forced, At Gunpoint, To Learn From David Barton." I had watched Huckabee's speech. How on earth could I have missed a statement like that? Well, I didn't. It had been edited out of the webcast that I had watched.
Huckabee agrees with Barton so strongly he wishes he could force every American to listen to Barton "at gunpoint"!
Who is David Barton? This comes from my diary from last Saturday about David Barton:
David Barton is a purported "Expert" historian/religious scholar who also addressed the “Rediscovering God in America” conference. David Barton explained how progressive taxation in all of its forms are "anti-biblical".
"The Bible is so good on economic issues and specifically on taxation issues that we used to know what kind of taxes are good and what kind of taxes are bad." ~ David Barton
1. God hates Capital Gains Taxes
2. God hates Progressive Income Taxes
3. God hates Estate Taxes
4. God hates the Minimum Wage
If Huckabee agrees with EVERY Barton message, then Huckabee thinks the Minimum Wage Laws, the Progressive Income Tax, the Capital Gains Tax, and the Estate Tax, are ALL anti-biblical.
Here are the real patron Saints of Republicans like Huckabee:
