Our landlady's problems paying vital utility bills has convinced us that we need to move out of our apartment as soon as possible. Our building received a water shut-off notice for the second time in 7 months last week. Fortunately our landlady was able to rent 3 vacant apartments in one day, and she was able to work out some temporary payment plans with the local Public Service company.
During our 9 years here we've always paid our rent on time, but if our water gets shut off because our landlady doesn't pay the bill, the city will label the building "UNINHABITABLE" and will only give the tenants 24 hours to move out.
Our family of three is really way past being tired of the whole deal, and we want to move. That's easier said than done. I'm on Social Security and my wife and I work as caretakers of our building, but we still barely make it from month to month, even going to 2 food pantries each month. Moving to a new place costs thousands of dollars (first month's rent and matching deposit, hiring a U-Haul, new utility deposits, etc). Needless to say, we have only been able to save a small amount. I'm here today, asking the Daily Kos community to consider helping us by sowing into a moving fund we have established at FundRazr. If you feel moved in any way to help, we would deeply appreciate it! I'll keep the Daily Kos community updated regarding our plans to move. Here's the link to our FundRazr page: http://bit.ly/...
