Reminder: Look for "The Inoculation Project" every Friday afternoon!
The Inoculation Project: Math & Science in Red State Schools
Solid science education is the best inoculation against ignorance.
The objective of this weekly project is to combat the anti-science push in conservative America by providing direct funding each week to math and science projects in red state classrooms.
Fortunately, a conduit organization for achieving this direct funding already exists: DonorsChoose.org. DonorsChoose.org allows you to make direct contributions to specific classroom projects (all vetted), resulting in tremendous and immediate impacts from small dollar donations.
Each week we focus on funding a single small-dollar project in a traditionally red state classroom. These are projects whose funding requests are expiring within the next week. If the projects are not funded by their expiration date, they die.

Teacher's Comments:
My Students
It takes thousands, millions of years to form a rock. How can we see that in the classroom?
My students are the first in my middle school to take high school Earth Science. We are a Title 1 school in a rural area with a high population of minorities. Regardless of socioeconomic status or ethnicity, my students continue to strive for excellence! My students ask questions and they LOVE knowledge! They will not sleep through these videos, I PROMISE!!!!
My Project
The rock cycle is a large piece of the high school Earth Science curriculum. These videos will bring excitement and clear understanding of the rock cycle as this is difficult to accomplish with inquiry learning and a hands on lab. These videos are imperative to understanding changes that occur over many thousands and millions of years.
Please help me create a spark! When I learned about the rock cycle, I learned by reading a textbook and looking at pictures. I was bored and not interested! I don't want to rob my students of the opportunity to learn about the rock cycle as it is such a foundation to understanding about our Earth.
Please consider rescuing this project by making a small donation to it. Small dollars make a big difference.

Good News
Last week's project, Experiencing Life Cycles in Preschool, got rescued!
Here's a note from the teacher:
Thank you all for your generous donations to my project! These materials will create meaningful lessons on life cycles as the children understand that living things change as they grow. Teaching science as an inquiry-exploring, asking questions, investigating, recording, and reflecting-will help my students build skills and attitudes that are important throughout their school career. This way of thinking is important to many areas of learning throughout one's school career and life.
Thank you again so much for your generosity. I can't wait to begin using these materials in my classroom!
We also gave a huge boost to last week's bonus project, Making Math Physical!!
Here's a note from that teacher, as well:
Thank you for your generosity and support. It's people like you who make a difference in our schools today. My students and I are always thrilled to find out when a class project of ours is funded. Thank you for funding our new math manipulatives project These items will make learning math more fun and will make it easier for us to achieve our math goals.
In low income schools, such as the school that I work at, it is difficult to get everything that you need to teach the set criteria. Having a website like Donors Choose, and having donors such as yourselves, has made it a lot easier for teachers like myself. Thank you for all your support!
