Guys, we’ve been at this a while now with Cenk and several others of you who keep dreaming about this utopic progressive president “of your dreams” who will one day come. Well guess what, I’m here to tell you to snap out of it, wake up because it will “never” happen for these three reasons:
1. Pure progressives can’t win national elections. If you review Obama’s election promises kept on Politifact, he ran as a center left dem from the start—so did his chief rival, Hillary and her husband Bill who was even more of a moderate.
Obama promised to increase the number of troops in Afghanistan and he did. So we shouldn’t be shocked he’s not leaving there tomorrow. He promised healthcare reform—but he did NOT promise a public option that so many of us prefer. He promised to repeal DADT and he did that. He can’t run down our 50-year-old progressive wish list and get everything done during his first term with his two congresses.
2. There are no kings in America and I’m not being factitious when I say this. Obama has never had more than 48-50 votes in the senate and 200 in the house. There was always a Joe Lieberman, Ben Nelson or ten other fake dems stopping progress in the senate and 45 blue-dog haters in the House.
Many of these folks took tough votes with what he did accomplish and you see they lost—big time. And, when he did pass progressive policies, we had every single republican governor and our teaparty supreme court doing everything in their power to overturn them.
3. Who do you believe should replace him? Many of you lament his so called progressive failures but I don’t see you suggesting alternative candidates. If you could singularly pick the next president who would you choose—Russ Feingold, Howard Dean?
Howard already failed and although I love Feingold and believe he would make a great president, he’s a terrible “politician” who couldn’t inspire enough people to hold his state. And guys, that’s with his nearly flawless political record. How about Grayson who also couldn’t hold half of Orlando or Hillary who couldn’t beat Obama?
Guys I’m simply saying that we need to do everything in our power to stop this madness and re-elect Obama because I truly believe he will be “liberated” to almost be the progressive president of our dreams.
We also need to quit beating on each other and focus on taking back control of these state houses and governorships. There’s no way we should have republicans running everything in Wisconsin. That’s totally our fault and I’m afraid we’re repeating our same mistakes.
I sure hope I'm wrong.
