Well, thank goodness for this! The very rich are dipping their toes in the luxury pond with a little more fervor!
Spending by rich Americans on luxury goods is set to grow by $26.6 billion in 2011, with the number of affluent families planning to spend more almost doubling in the past three years, a poll found on Friday.
The relief is understandable!:
"It is a relief to finally be able to see a significant return of affluent consumers to the luxury marketplace," Jim Taylor, vice-chairman of Harrison Group, said in a statement.
I don't know about you, but I am ready to exhale!
And don’t you love this quote? This is priceless:
"In the end, the increase in spending we foresee is not a return to the wanderlust of the past, but rather, an expression of sensible, resourceful, self-confident consumers expanding their portfolio of needs," he said.
Wait a second – the rich get more needs, too? Let’s see, let me check my own list of needs here… I’ve got food ... there's clothing ... and I have shelter. But the rich have EXPANDED their list? Well, that's innovative! What else is on THEIR list? Toe massages? Spider silk underpants? Enemas of venus flytrap extract? Platinum doorknobs?
Well, why didn't they just SAY so? Now I can see why these people need big tax breaks. It’s simple: They have MORE NEEDS than you and me. I think it’s high time we start a program of some sort, maybe distributing toe massage stamps so these people do not have to go without. Paul Ryan needs to get that into his plan right away! We can "transform" Social Security benefits into toe massage stamps. It's a win-win.
Wait – here’s more fun stuff from today’s news !!
The emergency manager appointed to put Detroit's troubled public school system on a firmer financial footing said on Thursday he was sending layoff notices to all of the district's 5,466 unionized employees.
Ahhhh, morning in America! Can you smell the progress?!
