I have seen many people who are rightfully disgusted with the treatment of Bradley Manning. There's something you can do about it. Once a month, I sit in on a conference call with the National Religious Campaign Against Torture. The main thing on the agenda these days is gathering support for the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT). OPCAT is a United Nations treaty passed in 2002 that adds to the 1994 Convention Against Torture. It mandates the creation of legal mechanisms to prevent torture from occurring and the right of international monitoring of situations in which torture could occur. The United States has not signed or ratified, and indeed was one of four votes against the treaty in 2002.
NRCAT is gathering support for a push to have the president sign the treaty, and then have Congress ratify it.
YOU CAN ENDORSE NRCAT'S STATEMENT ON OPCAT HERE.

The most powerful words I heard at the last meeting were - "We're going to keep bringing this to the president, year after year, until he signs it." That's how you do it.
