Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few months, you've no doubt heard about what's going on in here in Wisconsin. Republican Governor Scott Walker and his Republican yes-men (and yes-women) in the state legislature have declared all-out war on public employees and public employee unions here in Wisconsin, but we're not going down without a fight. Hundreds of thousands of my fellow Wisconsinites and I have exercised our rights to free speech and free assembly to gather at the State Capitol and make our voices heard - but we're not done fighting yet.
To continue our fight against the attack on public employees and public employee unions by Gov. Walker and Republican legislators, citizens from all over Wisconsin have banded together and organized efforts to recall all eight of the Republican State Senators who are eligible to be recalled right now. To date, petitions have been filed to initiate recall elections for Republican State Sens. Dan Kapanke, Randy Hopper, Luther Olsen, and Sheila Harsdorf, but there's still more work to be done. Organizers are still gathering enough signatures to initiate recall elections against all eight Republican State Senators, but those organizers could use some help. In addition to "boots on the ground," the recall efforts could use some funding.
To help the efforts to recall the Republican 8, Progressive Kick has announced that for every dollar given, Progressive Kick will make a matching contribution. If you don't live in Wisconsin but you'd like to help what we're doing here to recall the Republican 8, you can visit Progressive Kick's ActBlue fundraising page and make a contribution.
In order for Democrats to take control of the State Senate here in Wisconsin, we need to gain three seats, which isn't an outrageous number, given the fact that in 2008 President Obama won the districts represented by Sens. Kapanke, Hopper, and Olsen. Odds are good that Democrats can win back control of the State Senate in short order, and if we can do that, we can stop Gov. Walker's radical anti-union and anti-worker agenda in its tracks.
