So this morning I read Kos's depressing post about Dem intensity lagging again, similar to 2009-10.
Then I see this diary, just the kind of thing that will drive down Dems' intensity even more. And I don't buy that "[this kind of] dissent is necessary to push Obama to become more progressive." Not when the election is 18 months away. I would love for Obama to become Bernie Sanders, but it's not going to happen, certainly not in the next 18 months. If you want that kind of crusade, start it in Jan. 2013. Calling Obama names is asking for a repeat of 2010.
The only game now is whether people here and among the rank and file are going to get off their asses and do everything possible to avoid the catastrophe of Republican control of any branch of government in 2012 -- starting now.
I'm sorry, but this kind of stuff depresses that energy.
Think of it this way -- "Republican" Obama nominated Kagan and Sotomayor. Whom would real Republicans Romney, Pawlenty or Bachmann nominate? Judge Andrew Napolitano from Fox News? David Barton? Judge Edith Jones? Ken Starr? The most reactionary member of the Federalist Society possible?
And if the Senate flips back to the Republicans, whom would Obama even be able to confirm in his second term?
I just have no patience for this at this point in the election cycle. This blog has power. We elected Webb and Tester and a Dem. Senate in 2006.
And mobilizing is not the same as cheerleading.
The stakes are much too high.
