According to proposed new standards for the American Psychiatric Association's fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), women with "insufficient" interest in sex have a mental illness called "Sexual Interest/Arousal Disorder in Women"

Here are the "symptoms" of this newly-discovered mental disorder in women:

Sexual Interest/Arousal Disorder in Women

A. Lack of sexual interest/arousal of at least 6 months duration as manifested by at least 4 of the following indicators:

(1) Absent/reduced interest in sexual activity

(2) Absent/reduced sexual/erotic thoughts or fantasies

(3) No initiation of sexual activity and is rarely or never receptive to a partner’s attempts to initiate

(4) Absent/reduced sexual excitement/pleasure during sexual activity (on all or almost all sexual encounters)

(5) Desire is rarely or never triggered by any internal or external sexual/erotic stimulus (e.g., written, verbal, visual, etc.)

(6) Absent/reduced genital and/or nongenital sensations during sexual activity (on all or almost all sexual encounters)

B. The problem causes clinically significant distress or impairment

C. The sexual dysfunction is not better accounted for by another Axis I disorder (except another sexual dysfunction) and is not due exclusively to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, a medication) or a general medical condition

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
