This will be brief. Many county canvassing boards took the day off Sunday, but there are updated numbers from the Government Accountability Board in the recount of the April 5th election for Wisconsin Supreme Court. There has been a delay all week as the GAB checks the numbers and enters them in an unofficial spreadsheet posted on their web site.
As of 4:00 p.m. Sunday, "1,847 of 3,602 Reporting Units, approximately 51%, have been reviewed by G.A.B. staff" and added to the spreadsheet.
Drumroll, please...David Prosser, the incumbent, has increased his lead in those precincts by 21 votes.
Numbers from some of the larger counties are starting to come in. Joanne Kloppenburg has picked up 14 in Dane County, which has recounted just under 62,000 votes so far. Dane County includes the city of Madison and voted overwhelmingly for Kloppenburg.
The GAB has completed the review for 41 Milwaukee County precincts. Kloppenburg has gained 4 votes there.
As you can see, there have been no dramatic shifts and no surprises.
One of the issues mentioned by Kloppenburg when she requested the recount was long lines in Winnebago County on election day. So far, the numbers there are holding, with only a 2 vote swing in Kloppenburg's favor.
Of course, everyone wants to know what's happening in Waukesha County. Reports are they are going very slowly, but we finally have some numbers to report. There were a few snags early on with broken chains of custody alleged for ballots from the town of Brookfield and from Delafield. Some of those precincts are included in the 11 precincts recorded so far for Waukesha County. It's a small sample, only 7,626 votes. This was 9 more than the first total for those precincts. Of the 9 votes, 8 went to Prosser, 1 went to the "Scattering" category, and Kloppenburg got 0.
As the GAB keeps reminding us, these numbers are unofficial.
