From Kirkland Views

State Representative Roger Goodman(D) has filed with the Federal Election Commission and is challenging incumbent Republican Congressman Dave Reichert for the 8th Congressional District in 2012. Reichert is the U.S. Representative for Washington’s 8th congressional district, serving since 2005. Goodman, a resident of Kirkland, currently represents Washington’s 45th Legislative District, a position he has held since 2006.

At first glance, this seems like good news.  Personally I don't appreciate having a Republican mouthpiece like Dave Reichert serving as my Representative to Congress.  He may not be one of the most egregious members of Congress but he definitely does not represent my views.

Roger Goodman has a fairly decent reputation as a legislator, and he has been very vocal in his opposition to Governor Gregoire's veto of potions of the medical marijuana bill.   This will probably buy him some support from the crowd who feels ending the war on the legal use of marijuana  in this state is a big issue for them.

Interesting to note - I don't know much about Representative Goodman since he is not my Rep but when I went to Google to search for information the phrase "Drug Reformer" was attached to his name in the links to articles about him quite often.  This could work for or against him, so we will have to wait and see.

I am sure more facts will follow this announcement, and if anyone has anything to add about Representative Goodman I would be very interested in reading more.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

It will be interesting to see what he decides.  I know there is some nervousness amongst his current constituents about losing a good Representative, so if he does decide to run for Governor and wins I hope you guys get a good replacement.

governor.  He's been an excellent rep for my district, but not very visible if you don't follow politics.

I would be happy to see Reichert go, though I agree he's not the worst.  And he has that "Green River mojo" going for him.

in the 1st, not the 8th, and my suspicion all along (the FEC news is actually several months old) is that he's planning to run in the open seat in WA-01, not in the 8th. He needs somewhere to park his money, though, and he'd probably rather do it in the 8th rather than make it look like he's hovering vulture-like over Inslee, who, of course, hasn't made his gubernatorial run official. Depending on the numbering scheme post-redistricting, he may also find himself in WA-10 as well. The campaign account is freely transferable between federal districts, of course.

      •  Ah, good to know (0+ / 0-)

The WA-01 district may be here in King County, or I also heard it may be down closer to Olympia.

I guess a lot of things need to be settled before we see the final landscape for 2012.   As long as Reichert doesn't win anything (re-election or the Governor's office) I will consider that a plus.

Some good friends of mine worked on Roger's campaigns. He's a good nut, and I hope he finally takes Helmet Hair DOWN. Of course, I've been hearing rumors that Reichert wants to move to Olympia, soooo....

Now I am wondering if Reichert does make a run for the Governor - what Republican will step up and run in my district to replace him?  Dino Rossi, part four?  I know he lives nearby so he would be eligible (I think?)

that you don't have to live in the same district where you are running, just in the same state. Of course it's HELPFUL to live there, and I think most people doing that would relocate.

But please, no more Rossi. PLEASE.

mail and holiday cards beyond his legislative district for several years now. Sure, some of that is hoping that folks will send in checks. But it's been clear to me that he's been building name recognition beyond his district boundaries. (He even writes some of these by hand... At least for people like me who probably show up on numerous "solid Democrat" mailing lists).

He has a beautiful family.  :).

          Definitely laying the groundwork.

And a lot of people are not pleased with the controversy that has sprung up over the legal medicinal use of marijuana.   I am not a smoker myself but I am appalled that they are attempting to interfere with those who have a prescription for using.  Honestly I don't care if people use without a prescription but first things first....

a district that keeps reelecting Reichert is not gonna flip because of this. His opponents should hit him on his "investigation" of AARP and his votes on SS and Medicare.

of the vote that Darcy Brunner fell short of winning in two races. Dave Reichert reminds me a lot of Anne Northrup, a Republican who represented KY-3 from 1996 to 2006. Northrup would always win re-election with 51-53% of the vote, just finding enough votes to win. Reichert seems to be the Anne Northrup of WA.

    •  Yay us (0+ / 0-)

Those two Burner losses were terrible.  She was a fantastic choice for that job and instead we have Green River Dave, again.
